Reboot a Server in the Windows Rescue System

Learn how to reboot a server to apply patches and to test your server's ability to reboot successfully.

The Windows Rescue System will give you access to data contained on the server's hard drives. You can use RegEdit to load the Registry hive from the server's drive and edit the Registry. Follow the steps below to access the Windows Rescue System via the 1&1 Control Panel.

Step 1
Log in to your 1&1 Control Panel and select the relevant package.

From the Server Administration panel, click on Recovery Tool.

Check the box to Reboot now. Choose the Windows Rescue System and then click Next. Recovery Actions options

Please write down the Windows Recovery System password, as it is only shown once. When you are ready, click OK. Password displayed

You will be informed if the process was successful. When ready, you can click the Go To Overview button to be taken back to the Recovery Tool section of the 1&1 Control Panel. Reboot in progress

Open a browser and in the destination bar, type the server's initial IP followed by :5800 such as http://74.111.111.111:5800. As this may not load the page immediately, try every few minutes until the server has completed the reboot into the Windows Rescue System. You will see a TightVNC page. If the password was correct, you will be logged into the Windows Rescue System via TightVNC in the browser. Homepage of Windows Rescue System
