Manage Server E-Mail Accounts in the 1&1 Control Panel

Learn how to alter the DNS settings in order to create and manage E-mail accounts using the 1&1 Control Panel as opposed to managing a custom mail server on the server.

By default, the mail settings for a server are configured to route mail to the dedicated server and expect that a mail system is set up and running on the server itself. Follow the steps outlined below if you do not want to maintain a mail server, but want to route mail to the 1&1 Mail Servers and manage E-mail addresses through the 1&1 Control Panel.

Step 1
Log in to your 1&1 Control Panel and select the relevant package.
Step 2
From the Domains panel, click on Manage Domains.
Domains > Manage Domains
Domains > Manage Domains

Step 3
Check the box next to a domain to select it. On the DNS drop-down, select Edit DNS Settings. Overview of domains

Step 4
Under Advanced DNS Settings choose 1&1 mail server and click OK when finished. Overview of domains

Please note:
All DNS changes, though live on the 1&1 Server within minutes, may take up to 1 hour to be fully updated and recognised by all servers/computers on the Internet. If you are using your own name server, it will take 72 hours.
