Connect to 1&1 Cloud Server Windows with Remote Desktop

Find out how to create a remote desktop connection from your computer to your 1&1 Cloud Server Remote Desktop.

Remote Desktop is preinstalled on all Windows systems and allows you to directly access your server's desktop interface. Follow the steps outlined below to create a connection.

Step 1
Start the Remote Desktop Connection.
  • Windows 7: Start > All Programs > Accessories > Remote Desktop Connection.
  • Windows 8: Enter Remote Desktop into the search box above the "Start" button and click on Remote Desktop Connection.

From the Remote Desktop prompt, click on Options to view the general settings. Login screen for Remote Desktop

Step 3
Under the Logon settings in the General tab, please enter your IP Address (found in your 1&1 Cloud Panel) and your User name. If you check the box next to allow me to save credentials, the system will save the last-entered login details.
Click on Connect to proceed.
Please note:
If your server has been configured with an image supplied by 1&1, the administrator account will be called Administrator.

Enter your password and click on OK. Your logon credentials

If the identity of the connection cannot be identified, a warning message will ask whether you would like to proceed. Click on Yes to confirm the connection. Check the box next to Don't ask me again for connections on this computer to save the connection details. Next time you connect to the server, you will not receive this warning message. Please note:
Each time you connect to your 1&1 Server, a session is created. Using the license, you can have up to two active sessions at the same time. To end a session, please log out of the server. If you only close the Remote Desktop window without logging out, the session will continue.
