Connect to 1&1 Cloud Server Linux with SSH

For 1&1 Cloud Server with Linux operating system

Find out how to establish a connection to your 1&1 Cloud Server Linux with SSH.

Linux servers are often administrated through the command prompt, also known as terminal or command line. The transmission is encrypted using SSH (Secure Shell). With an SSH client, you can remotely access a server's command prompt.

Access Data

To connect to your 1&1 Cloud Server Linux with SSH, you will need the following data:

Username root
Password This root user password is shown during the setup of your server
Hostname / Target Your server's IP Address, found on your 1&1 Cloud Panel overview page.
Port 22

Establish an SSH Connection

Depending on your operating system, please follow these instructions:

  • Windows (all): Since Windows is not set up with a SSH client, an additional programme like PuTTy is needed.

Download putty.exe and save it locally. Start the program and in the field labelled "Host Name (or IP address)" enter your server's IP Address. Click on Open and confirm the warning message that appears by clicking on Yes. After having entered your username and password, you can begin working on your server.

  • Linux (all): Open the command prompt (e.g. xterm) and enter ssh root@<Your IP Address> . Below is an example of the information this command may return:
    [user@s123456789 ~]# ssh root@
The authenticity of host ' (' can't be established.
    RSA key fingerprint is a3:49:0b:54:98:96:13:09:41:ba:42:b5:f1:c6:8d:0a.
