1&1 Cloud Server Windows Cannot Be Pinged

Despite ICMP not being blocked by the firewall in your Cloud Panel, the Windows Firewall may not allow you to ping your Windows server.

The default configuration of Windows firewall under Windows images is to "block all". A specific ICMP rule is needed to resolve this issue.

Solution

  • If the Cloud Panel firewall is sufficient for your needs, deactivate the Windows firewall.
  • Activate the pre-defined rule for ICMP by going to Windows Firewall > Inbound Rules > File- and Printer Sharing (Echo Rule - ICMPv4 inbound).
