Enable SSL Encryption for Outlook Express (POP3)

Follow the steps below to enable SSL encryption for your 1&1 Mail Basic account in Outlook Express for POP3 protocol.

This article assumes that you have already set up your 1&1 Mail Basic account with Microsoft Outlook Express.

Step 1
Launch Outlook Express from the Start menu and select Tools > Accounts. Outlook Express start page

Select your 1&1 Mail Basic account that you have already set up and click on Properties. Your Internet Accounts

Click the Servers tab at the top of the new window. General Settings

Check the box for My server requires authentication and then click on Settings. Your Sever Settings

Select Use same settings as my incoming mail server and click on OK.

Click the Advanced tab at the top.

Enter 587 as the Outgoing mail (SMTP) port and check the box for This server requires a secure connection.
Enter 995 as the Incoming mail (POP3) port and check the box for This server requires a secure connection. Click on OK to save your changes.Advanced settings tab
