Manually Set Up E-mail with Mozilla Thunderbird for Mac

The following steps will teach you how to sync your 1&1 Mail Basic with Mozilla Thunderbird Using IMAP protocol.

Follow the instructions below to sync your 1&1 Mail Basic account with Mozilla Thunderbird. Before you begin, you will need to have Mozilla Thunderbird already installed on your computer and a 1&1 e-mail account created.

Please note:
1&1 suggests the use of IMAP over POP3.

Step 1
Launch Mozilla Thunderbird. If it is your first time launching Mozilla Thunderbird, the Mail Account Setup Wizard should appear and you may skip to step 4. Otherwise continue with the next step.

From the Mozilla Thunderbird window, select Tools Account Settings.

Under Account Actions select Add Mail Account.

Enter Your name, your full 1&1 Email address and your 1&1 Mail Basic Password. Check the box for Remember password if you do not wish to enter your password every time when checking or sending e-mail. Then, click the Continue.

Suggested settings may be provided for you. Be sure to select IMAP to view the suggested IMAP settings. In this example, the suggested settings are incorrect so we will click the Manual Config button to enter the correct information. IMAP settings

Enter imap.1and1.co.uk as the Incoming Server hostname.
Enter 993 as the Incoming Port Number.
Select SSL/TLS from the SSL drop-down menu and select Normal password from the Authentication drop-down menu.

Enter auth.smtp.1and1.co.uk as the Outgoing Server hostname.
Enter 587 as the Outgoing Port Number.
Select STARTTLS from the SSL drop-down menu and select Normal password from the Authentication drop-down menu.

Enter your full 1&1 e-mail address as the User Name.

When you are finished, click the Done.

Click on OK to save your changes.

You will see your newly-added account on the left-hand side of the Mozilla Thunderbird window as you account is now fully set up.
