Manually Set Up E-mail with Microsoft Outlook Express using POP3

Learn how to configure Microsoft Outlook Express for use with your 1&1 Mail Basic account using the POP3 Protocol.

Follow the instructions below to sync your E-mail account with Outlook Express. Before you begin, you will need to have Outlook 2010 already installed on your computer and created a 1&1 Mail Basic account.

Outlook Express was included with Windows operating systems from Windows 95 up until Windows XP. Beginning with Windows Vista, Outlook Express was replaced with Windows Mail. Beginning with Windows 7, Windows Mail was replaced with Windows Live Mail.

Please note:
1&1 suggests the use of IMAP over POP3.
Step 1
Launch Outlook Express from the Start menu on your computer. Under Tools, select Accounts. Outlook Express Start page

Click on Add and select Mail. Internet Accounts

Enter your Display name. The display name is the name that will appear when others receive mail from your account. Click on Next to continue. Display names

Enter your 1&1 Mail Basic address in the text box and click the Next. E-mail addresses

From the drop-down box, select POP3 as the E-mail account type. Enter pop.1and1.co.uk as the Incoming mail server address and auth.smtp.1and1.co.uk as the Outgoing mail server address.

Enter your full e-mail address as the Account name and enter the E-mail account's Password that was setup with the account. If you do not want to enter your E-mail account's password every time, check the box next to Remember password. Click on Next to proceed. Login information

Click on Finish to exit the wizard. Setup completed

Select the newly-added pop.1and1.co.uk account and click on Properties. All accounts

Click the servers tab at the top of the new window that opens. General properties

Check the box for My server requires authentication and then click on Settings. Server Information

Click on the Advanced tab.

Enter 587 as the Outgoing mail (SMTP) port and check the box for This server requires a secure connection.
Enter 995 as the Incoming mail (POP3) port and check the box for This server requires a secure connection.
