Manually Install WordPress via SSH

This article describes how to install WordPress via SSH.

If you do not have SSH access, you can manually install WordPress via FTP. As a prerequisite, a MySQL database is already available.

Step 2
Download the latest WordPress files using the wget command.
(uiserver):u12345678:~ > wget http://wordpress.org/latest.tar.gz
Step 3
Run the tar xfvz latest.tar.gz command to extract the compressed file.
(uiserver):u12345678:~ > tar xfvx latest.tar.gz

(uiserver):u12345678:~ >
Step 4
A new wordpress folder exists now that you have uncompressed the data. Type ls -lah to view files and folders in the current directory.
(uiserver):u12345678:~ > ls -lah
drwx---r-t 29 u12345678 ftpusers 4.0K Jan 4 14:24 .
drwxr-xr-t  6 root      root     4.0K Jan  4 00:13 ..
-rw-------  1 u12345678 ftpusers 8.3K Jan  4 12:48 .bash_history
drwxr-xr-x  5 u59908830 ftpusers 4.0K Sep 22 17:39 wordpress
(uiserver):u12345678:~ >
Step 5
Rename the folder similar to the website that will be using WordPress.
In this example,
we rename the folder to 1and1help/ by using the command mv wordpress/ 1and1help/ to move the folder into the current directory which will also allow us to rename the folder.
(uiserver):u12345678:~ > mv wordpress/ 1and1help/
Step 6
Ensure that the domain points to this folder. You must log into the 1&1 Control Panel and change the destination folder for the domain to the folder you just uploaded.
Please note:
It may take a couple of minutes until the domain will point at the correct folder after making changes.
Step 7
Open a browser and access your domain. In this example, the domain is http://1and1help.co.uk/.
When the domain points to the correct folder, a WordPress page informs you that there is no configuration file. Click on Create a Configuration File to proceed. Notification: No configuration file
