Required Information for an FTP Connection

For 1&1 WebHosting and 1&1 Managed Server

Learn how to find your FTP user name and set a new password in order to connect and transfer files to and from your webspace.

You will need the information below to connect with your FTP software.

Step 1
Log in to your 1&1 Control Panel and select the relevant package.
Step 2
Click the FTP Account link from the Web Space panel.
Hosting > FTP Account
Access > FTP Account

You will see your username, destination directory and description of the FTP account here.

For security reasons, the password is not be displayed in the 1&1 Control Panel. If you do not remember your password, it will have to be reset by following the next steps.

If you have lost or forgotten your password, you will have to reset it. To do so, click Edit next to the account in question.

Step 5
You will now see two text boxes to set a new password. Please enter the same password twice to set a new password. You may optionally enter a description of the FTP account such as "main FTP account" for your reference. Please take note of the password change as the current password is never shown in the Control Panel for your security.

Click OK to save your changes.

Please note:
To change file permissions using an FTP programme, right-click a file and select Properties. From this, a separate window should open where you can alter permissions for the user, group and others.
