Connect to Webspace via FTP Using WinSCP

For 1&1 WebHosting and 1&1 Managed Server

Learn how to connect to your shared hosting webspace via SFTP, FTPS or FTP (insecure) using WinSCP.

WinSCP is a free FTP programme/client that allows you to upload, download and change permissions of files you keep in the webspace of your 1&1 package. FTP is insecure, but WinSCP supports SFTP and FTPS and you can use these secure versions of FTP to transfer your files.

Step 1
Download the installation package of WinSCP and install it.
Step 2
Launch the WinSCP programme from you Windows Desktop or Start menu. Enter the following information and click on Save to proceed:
SFTP for Linux Packages

SFTP Only
Host name Domain name in your package
Port number 22
User name FTP user name from your 1&1 Control Panel
Password FTP password from your 1&1 Control Panel
File Protocol SFTP
FTPS for Windows packages

FTPS Only
Host name Domain name in your package
Port number 990
User name FTP user name from your 1&1 Control Panel
Password FTP password from your 1&1 Control Panel
File Protocol FTP - SSL/TLS Implicit encryption
Plain FTP for Any Package (Insecure)

Host name Domain name in your package
Port number 21
User name FTP user name from your 1&1 Control Panel
Password FTP password from your 1&1 Control Panel
File Protocol FTP - No Encryption
Step 3
Choose a name to save the connection information and click OK.

Once saved, click Login.

The server will send a secure fingerprint in order to encrypt the data transferred. Click Yes to accept it.

If it was not saved in the configuration, enter your password and then click OK.

Once connected, can begin transferring files. To upload, drag and drop files to the right. WinSCP window after successful connection
