Manually Install WordPress via FTP

For all hosting and managed server packages

Follow the steps below to install WordPress using FTP (File Transfer Protocol).

WordPress requires an installed MySQL database.

Download and save the latest version of WordPress from the WordPress page to your computer.
Step 3
Double-click the ZIP file downloaded to open the ZIP file and choose Extract all files.

Select Extract. Select a Destination and Extract Files

You should see that a new WordPress folder exists now that you have uncompressed the ZIP file. Rename Folder

It is best to rename the folder similar to the website that will be using WordPress. In this example, we rename the folder to 1and1help. New Folder Name

Upload the folder to the root of your webspace via FTP.

Now that the folder has been uploaded, you will have to ensure that the domain points to this folder. You must log in to your 1&1 Control Panel and change the domain destination folder. It may take 15 minutes until the domain will point at the correct folder after making changes.

Open a browser and access your domain. In this example, the domain is http://1and1help.com/When the domain points to the correct folder, you should see a WordPress page informing you that there is no configuration file. Click the button for Create a Configuration File. Create a Configuration File

If the config file is created successfully, you will be informed of the information you need to completed the setup. Primarily, you will need the database information from the 1&1 Control Panel. When ready, click Let's go! Start with WordPress

Fill out the database information where required as seen in the screen shots below. An example has been shown for both the 1&1 Managed Server the Web Hosting packages. Configuration for Managed Servers

If the information is correct, you will be informed that WordPress is ready for installation. Click the Run the install button to continue. Run Installation

You will be prompted to enter a Site Title, Username, Password and E-mail Address. If you wish, tick the box to allow your blog to appear in search engines like Google and Technorati.
When finished, click on Install WordPress Configuration for Web Hosting Servers

Please write down your username and password for your own reference. WordPress has now been installed successfully and you may now click the Log In button to begin setup of your WordPress site!Log in to your WordPress site
