For all hosting and 1&1 Managed Server packages

This article will describe how to manually install Drupal to your webspace using FTP.

To install Drupal, simply follow the instructions below.

Step 1
Drupal requires a MySQL database. If you have not yet done, please create a new MySQL Database.
Step 2
Download and save the latest version of Drupal (zip file) from the drupal download page to your computer.
Step 3
Double-click the downloaded ZIP file to open it. Then click Extract all files.

It is best to rename the folder similar to the website that will be using Drupal. In this example, we rename the folder to 1and1help.

Step 5
Upload the folder to the root of your webspace via FTP.
Step 6
Now that the folder has been uploaded, you will have to ensure that the domain points to this folder. You must log into the 1&1 Control Panel and change the destination folder for the domain to the folder you just uploaded.
Please note:
It may take about 15 minutes until the domain will point at the correct folder after making changes.
Step 7
Open a browser and access your domain. In our example, the domain is http://1and1help.com/.

When the domain points to the correct folder, you should see a Drupal page prompting you to Select an installation profile. Select Standard and then click Save and continue.
