Import Rules

A CSV file consists of clear text, so it can be read in any ASCII editor and
changed by hand. A sample file will look like this:

"fieldlist: category";"title";"item_number";"description";"detail_description";"image";"detail_image";"price";"vat";"templatefile_smalllist";"templatefile_detail";"is_invisible"
"Shoes";"Runner Brand shoe";"00001-shoe";"Great for running";"Great on all kinds of terrains";"run_shoe_thm.jpg";"run_shoe.jpg";"49.99";"6";"template_smalllist.template";"template_detail.template";"0";

Important informationThe "fieldlist: " line must be one continuous line with no hard carriage returns.
The same applies for every individual item line.

There must be a blank space after the fieldlist: ("fieldlist: category")

A semi-colon should be used to separate the various items. There must not be any
inverted commas in the actual text other than in the form of "

The header information (first line of the CSV file) should be in lowercase.

You cannot import more than 500 items at a time.

Standard variable names for items.category: Enter the product category in which the item is to appear. If the
given product category does not exist it will be created during import. Product
sub-categories are separated by a "|"(the pipe symbol; click on "Shift"+"\" together).
For e.g:
"fieldlist: category";"item_number";"description";"price"
"Mobile Phones|Nokia";"0001-nk";"Nokia 7610";"500.00"
"Mobile Phones|Motorola";"0001-mt";"MT XXXX";"100.00"
So in the above example, Mobile Phones is the main category and Nokia and Motorola
are sub-categories"

item_number: This is where you enter the item number for the item.

title: This is where you enter the name of the item.

description: Enter the item description here. It shows up in the
product overview page. You can also use HTML tags. Strings such as \r\n mean new
line new paragraph.

image: You can enter the path of your item image if it has been uploaded.
Images cannot be imported, so therefore you have to upload them using eShop
Administration. (Follow FAQ: How to import images)

Another possibility would be to leave this field out of the import file and then
later upload the images under Item Administration.

vat: It is the tax setting. Please only enter a number, not the percentage
symbol.

price: Enter the price for the item here. Here too only give the number,
not the currency.

detail_description: Enter the description of the item here as it should
appear in the detailed view of the item.

detail_image: Same as image.

templatefile_smalllist: This tells you which template the item should refer
to in the product overview. This is usually the file template_smalllist.template,
so this field isn't really necessary.

templatefile_detail: This tells you which template to use in the detailed
overview of the item.

is_invisible: This parameter states whether your item should be treated as
invisible or not. The expression "1" denotes it should be invisible and "" or "0"
means visible. This field is not required. The default is always "visible".

ignore_customer_discount: If your eShop has group management and you have
created groups with discounts, then with this variable you can decide whether the
item gets the discount or not. "1" as a value means ignore discount. "0" or ""
means don't ignore group discount.

rule: You can import item rules. A "\" is required before any characters
that the import programme could mistake for separators.

Size: This field is an extended item attribute which you set. Of course,
you can give it a different name, and just treat this as an example.
"selection: 23 | 24-25 | 26-27 | 28-29 | 30-31" All we are doing here is creating
an attribute "selection:..". The CSV import always sets any unknown field names as
item attributes. The field names of these imported attributes cannot be edited.

Standard variable names for CategoriesYou can import Product Category properties too in a separate file. A sample example:
"category_fieldlist: name";"description";"image"
"category: Mobile Phones";"Great cell phones";"tech.jpg"
"category: Radios";"Great radios";"radio.jpg"

name: Name of the product category

description: A brief description of the category

image: Category image. See image description for item

templatefile_categorymain: This tells you which template the category should
refer to in the product overview.

templatefile_categorysub: This tells you which template the sub-category
should refer to in the product overview.

is_invisible: This parameter states whether your category should be treated
as invisible or not. The expression "1" denotes it should be invisible and ""
or "0" means visible. This field is not required. The default is always "visible".

Other NotesA new import always creates a new item if the item number or name has changed,
otherwise the item will simply be overwritten.

If the server "freezes" or the import is taking a very long time, try to import
smaller quantities (about 400 - 500 items).

If you see an error message such as "There is no fieldlist-definition before the
first line of CSV data then you must insert the CSV file at the beginning of a
fieldlist" you might have to check the first row to make sure it is correct.

The error message Illegal fieldname in line, tells you that the inverted commas are
missing from that particular line. It is also possible that a field name in the
definition line is not correct. Blank spaces and special symbols are not allowed in
field names.
